Employment

Downtown Tempe Community, Inc. (DTC) has been an effective downtown management and services organization for the stakeholders of downtown Tempe since it was founded in 1993. Fundamentally, DTC has accomplished many, if not most, of the objectives set for the organization when it was established.

The Mill Avenue District is a safer place, parking is easier and more available, the economy has grown substantially, the quality of public and private space has been dramatically improved, a new image has been crafted, and the status of the Mill Avenue District as Arizona's best city center has been clearly established. The International Downtown Association has named Mill Avenue "the only walkable downtown in the valley".

Mill Avenue District Ambassadors
The Mill Avenue District, Arizona’s 2nd most popular tourism and visitor destination (next to the Grand Canyon!), seeks Fall 2008 volunteers. This program offers a unique opportunity to work for a pilot program that includes hands-on, practical experience in the delivery of information services that support local business, promote smart transportation, and bring awareness and hospitality to the Mill Avenue District. The hospitality-based Ambassador Program delivers enhanced customer services to visitors so that their experiences are positive ones that create memories of feeling welcome, having fun, and experiencing an easy-to-navigate destination. Duties include distributing maps and information, giving directions, offering shopping and dining recommendations, answering questions, conducting limited District historic tours; presenting goodwill welcome programs to new employers and residents moving into the District; and, providing information and directions at two METRO stations in the District, assisting light rail riders. Duties are carried out on foot, and via use of a GEM Car mobile information station during Sun Devil football games, Tempe Beach Park events, and peak pedestrian hours in the Mill Avenue District (Between Noon & 8:00 pm Thursday thru Sunday). Selections will be based on applicant’s friendly, proactive, positive, and helpful attitude and ability to meet scheduling needs. Training will be provided prior to starting work, including paid training in the nationally-known Certified Tourism Ambassador program. The Welcome Ambassador Program is a coalition of Tempe partners including Downtown Tempe Community, Inc., the Tempe Convention & Visitors Bureau, the new METRO Light Rail authority, and APS.
