As we like to say, “Plan ahead, sail smoothly!” Okay, we made that up, but you get the drift—it’s the best way to enjoy the parade! The Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade has grown in popularity each year, drawing people all eager to experience the magic and cheer, both on and off the water. To ensure a seamless and joyful experience, we’ve put together some important information to help you plan your visit.
The Boat Parade takes place on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Tempe Beach Park from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Check out our Event Website for all of the details. The park opens at 4:00 p.m. with holiday shopping, delicious eats, a festive beer & wine garden, and live entertainment to get you in the spirit. Santa will be ready for photos from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00, and roaming jugglers will bring smiles at 5:00 p.m.The Boat Parade begins at 7:00 p.m., as boats launch from the marina on the north side of Tempe Town Lake and float across the lake toward Tempe Beach Park. A dazzling fireworks show lights up the sky at 8:15 p.m. from the Mill Ave Bridge, followed by a performance from Gal Drimmer to close out the night at 9:00 p.m.
IMPORTANT & HELPFUL INFORMATION
PARADE ROUTE
The Parade starts and ends at the marina on the north side of the lake. Boats will head east on Tempe Town Lake, creating a large loop around the lake. If you’re not attending the event at Tempe Beach Park but want to catch a glimpse of the parading boats, use this guide to find other great viewing areas. On the North Side, you can check out North Shore Beach or North Linear Park. Please note that the marina is closed as it’s the staging area for the boats. On the South Side, Neil Giuliano Park or anywhere along the shoreline toward Rural Road could be good options too. There is no view of the parade on the west side of the light rail bridge. Insider Tip: Remember to bring your blanket and/or chair for the beach park.
CLEAR BAG POLICY
There is a clear bag policy in effect for the event this year to ensure the safety and enjoyment for everyone. Approved bags include clear bags (no larger than 11" x 6" x 12"), small clutches, fanny packs, and 1-gallon clear storage bags. Please note: Medical Bags will be allowed but are subject to search.

Be aware of upcoming road closures around Tempe Beach Park, including Mill Avenue Bridge, and sections of Rio Salado Parkway. It's also important to plan ahead for extra travel time and parking.

ADA Parking - Between Rio Salado Parkway & 3rd Street, on the west side of the road, all meters will be dedicated for ADA vehicles that display the proper placard or license plate.
Alternative Transportation Options:
Valley Metro Light Rail - There is a stop on Mill Avenue/3rd Street Station (East Valley or West Valley lines) which is a short stroll from the Tempe Beach Park. Plan your trip here
Tempe Streetcar- Hop on the Tempe Street Car, which has several stops throughout Downtown Tempe, including several near Tempe Beach Park.
Carpool - Gather your friends and share a ride to make parking easier
Ride Your Bike - There is a FREE bike valet from Tempe Bicycle Action Group. The valet is available at the Northwest side of the intersection of Rio Salado Pkwy and Mill Ave.
