"Life is not about finding yourself. It's about finding pizza" - Anonymous
This tour is for people who love pizza. It's for those that make it a point to eat pizza on a regular basis. It's for those that seek out the best pizza in every city they visit. This is for the pizza aficionados (or is it aficionadoughs?) who debate the cauliflower base: is it a breach of crust?
I mean, who doesn't love pizza? Weirdoughs, that's who. OK, enough with the cheesy puns.
In Downtown Tempe, everyday is National Pizza Day and we've put together the official Downtown Tempe Pizza Tour to guide you through each and every delicious slice of pizza in this fabulous college town (typically known for having subpar slices, but here, we have masterpieces). Grab your hat and join the magical pizza tour!
Slices on Mill:
Slices On Mill is a locally owned Tempe pizzeria that specializes in east coast-style pizza. Open since 1998 and re-freshed with new ownership and innovative concepts in 2019, Slices on Mill is the go-to late night spot, lunch spot, dinner spot and snack spot. Unique pizza offerings include Old Bay Chicken, Loaded Potato and Salad pizza (for all you veggie types). You'll find Slices on 6th Street, just east of Mill Avenue, next to CASA.
414 Pub & Pizza
414 Pub & Pizza is the best place on Mill Avenue to find Killer Karaoke every night along with made-from-scratch pizza like the Arizona with a hot ranch base and the Margarita, the freshest pizza this side of the Rio Grande. Guess where 414 is located? 414 S. Mill Avenue. Full bar.
Spinelli's Pizzeria
You'll find a bit of Philly at Spinelli's but with a Tempe twist. Open until 5 am, this art & graffiti-styled pizzeria is where the cool kids hang and by kids, I mean anyone 10 - 85 years old. Cool vibes, great merch and even better pizza - the biggest slices in town. You can't go wrong with the Chicken & Waffles pizza, the Mac & Cheese or the Tuscany Love. You'll find Spinelli's just west of Mill Avenue on 5th Street.
"Every pizza is a personal pizza if you try hard and believe in yourself." - Bill Murray
Pedal Haus Brewery
Pedal Haus is downtown Tempe's home of award winning craft brews also has a very busy pizza oven firing up rustic pizzas like the Spicy Sow and The Butcher, all made with San Marzano tomatoes, fresh and dry mozzarella and pecorino romano cheese. They even have in honor of head brewer, Doc's Pizza (washed down with a Day Drinker Light Lager of course). Located in Centerpoint at 7th Street and Maple Avenue, full bar/brewery.
Mellow Mushroom
Mellow Mushroom has the best pizza in Tempe their website claims, so a visit is required on this pizza tour. A mellow, skater vibe and stone baked pizzas like the Kosmic Karma, Funky Q. Chicken and the Holy Shiitake will have you voting in the "heck yeah, this is great pizza" category. Located on the corner of 7th Street and Mill Avenue, full bar and over 40 taps.
"Unless you are a pizza, the answer is yes, I can live without you." - Bill Murray
Sauce Pizza & Wine
Sauce is known for delicious pizza at a reasonable price. And that sauce though! Add in the fresh ingredients for which they search far and wide, plus the variety of red and white wines and local beers to complement their pizzas, you know you're going to love it. Prosciutto & Fig, Portobello & Artichoke and Lasagna Pie are what they are known for. Located in Union Tempe at the corner of 7th Street and Myrtle Avenue.
"My love is pizza shaped. Won't you have a slice? It's circular, so there's enough to go around." - Dora J. Arod
