We’re bringing back the block party energy for a second year! The Downtown Tempe Juneteenth Block Party is the perfect combo of good music, good eats and good community. Teri Tobin is back as this year’s emcee and will set the vibe for the night, as well as, give us a great performance and Urban Poet will deliver powerful spoken word. DJ Panic and DJ AKSHEN will keep the energy up with nonstop music so that Furious Styles Crew can bring the heat on the dance floor with some 1 v 1 dance battles. Don't worry, they will open it up to you all to jump in and show out!
We’re bringing flavors that just hit different…come hungry and enjoy a lineup of amazing flavors from some of the best Black-owned food vendors:
- Kingpin BBQ: Servin’ up smoked meats packed with flavor.
- Randizzle’s Burgers: Offering bold, stacked creations that do not hold back.
- Island Boyz Jerk Spot: Bringing the authentic Jamaican and Caribbean spice.
- Maui Wowi: Bringing an island vibe with their fruit smoothies and coffees.
- Flav-Oh’s Ice Cream Truck: Keepin’ it cool with old-school 90s-style treats.
- Big Mama’s Desserts: Banana pudding. Peach cobbler. Strawberry cheesecake. And more!
Pair your meal with a selection of alcoholic beverages, including Crown Royal canned cocktails, or locally brewed Pedal Haus beers.
Last year’s Juneteenth Block Party is where the Barber Battle idea was born and if you’ve been following along, you’ll know that the semifinals and finals are taking place at this year’s Block Party. Arizona’s top barbers will go clippers to clippers in these final rounds to conclude the Barber Battle. These battles will highlight freestyle designs and some of the cleanest fast fades in the game!
This year, we are bringing even more live art and interactive experiences! Lace up your skates and hit the floor with Zoni Girls at the retro pop-up roller rink, open to all ages. The 40 Plus Double Dutch Club will bring back the classic fun of jumping rope. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, there is space for everyone to jump in and have some fun!
Black artistry will be on full display with live paintings where Zybrena Porter will bring culture, power and resilience to life through her bold artwork! Stop by and show her some love!
Attendees can step into interactive installations that bring Juneteenth history to the forefront through VR and listen to some Southern Porch Storytelling that feature real stories, real voices and a deeper look into Black heritage.
Take a break and relax at the RichKat Mobile Cigar Lounge, offering premium cigars in a laid-back setting…and for those looking for a little competition, there will be classic games like spades and chess available to play nearby.
The Tempe Public Library will be on-site to celebrate Black literature and activism. Guests can explore inspiring quotes from Black authors, artists, and activists and take home a selection of books. The kids' area will have life-size games and spinny chairs so kids can also have a fun and engaging space to enjoy the evening.
