Music Festival Fashion to Rock at Summer Ends

The end of September in Downtown Tempe means it’s time for the Summer Ends Music Festival. If you're lucky enough to have tickets for all 4 days AND you're a female, your first thought is the universal question, "What do I wear?" A few guys may have this question too. We hit the streets for some advice from some of our local retailers to give you some great festival fashions to rock at #SummerEndsAZ.
Thursday is easy – it’s the shortest day of the festival – Cold War Kids, Brandon Flowers and Hozier are on deck on just one stage. Most likely you're coming from work or class, so a pair of jeans or shorts with a cute top will work. Friday is a no-brainer too – music starts after 5p and runs until midnight. Hello Jimmy Eat World! The fashion-forward ladies at Pitaya swear that a knot-front dress is perfect for any Friday night, outdoor concert look. Plus, it will be a staple in your wardrobe this fall – bonus! Pair it with black accessories for an effortless and edgy look.
Saturday and Sunday present more of a challenge – the days are longer, starting at 1p and rocking until the midnight hour, and you'll be hopping in between stages. From Iration’s alternative/reggae to Big Sean, the rhythm and beats should have you grooving, so you want to be comfortable and look great of course! For Saturday, the ultra hip crew at Urban Outfitters put this list of essentials together:
- Sunglasses - necessity for any outdoor event in Arizona.
- Boots - adds some height to see in a crowd!
- Graphic band tee - music themed tees with a vintage feel are perfect for festivals.
- Flannel - adds a grunge element to the outfit, and perfect for if it gets chilly (we can only hope).
- Hat - keeps the sun out of your face so you don't miss any of the onstage action!
- Bag - small enough for the essentials with a cool '70s vibe that's super trendy right now.
- Shorts - it will still be HOT during the day, and the distressed shorts pair great with a cool band tee.
- Faux leather jacket - for a cool "rocker" vibe.
- Necklace - festivals are a great opportunity to add boho accessories.
Don't worry guys...they didn't leave you out:
- Hat - perfect for keeping the sun out of the face, and the drawstring keeps it tight.
- Backpack - holds any festival essentials - sunscreen, water, cash.
- Denim - basic denim is always in style for both Summer and Fall.
- Graphic Tee - music themed and lightweight is perfect for a festival.
- Flannel - adds a grunge vibe, and great for layering if it gets chilly in the evening (yes please).
- Shoes - Vans are comfortable and classic, in an ASU-inspired hue.
- Sunglasses - do not go without these!
Get ready to dance on Sunday -- programming kicks off at 3p with the sounds of Kaytranada and ends with none other than Mr.West himself. This is your "best outfit day" for sure! One stop at Here on The Corner will more than prepare you for this epic festival conclusion. With a passion for locally-designed fashion and products with a cause, here's what the trendy crew picked out:
- Copper Bangles from RER Metals - these locally handmade copper bracelets are sturdy and stackable.
- Clutch from Madalyn Nault Accessories - another locally made gem, Madalyn creates adorable wallets with cute interiors, perfect to fit your phone, some extra cash, and your tickets.
- The Traveler's Hat - hair gets a little messy from a day full of dancing...hide it under a cute floppy hat.
- Comfy Printed Dress - this dress has a cute cut out back to keep you cool, and a relaxed fit so you can dance your little heart out.
- Gypsy Bound Leather Bracelet - these recycled leather wrap bracelets get better looking with age.
So...what will you wear to #SummerEndsAZ? No matter what your usual style is, there's just something about summer music festivals that make you want to dress the part. Take this advise from the fashion experts in #DowntownTempe and you'll be set in no time -- rock on!
