ARTIST NAME: John Randall Nelson
This steel, concrete and ceramic tile sculpture was designed as a tribute to former mayor, Harry E. Mitchell. He is portrayed as a stilt walker to emphasize his heightened sense of potential, performance and accomplishment. The inverted pyramid in his hands symbolizes the Tempe City Hall. Around the base are tiles with fragments of historic news articles, budgets and blueprints from the time of Mitchell's service. The artist is an illustrator, painter and sculptor living in Tempe.
