We are all going through a very hard time right now, but we are #TempeTough and will get through this together. Downtown Tempe is still a vibrant and unique place full of fun, entertaining, and exciting activities for you and your family. Here is a list of 10 awesome things you can do while you’re quarantining at home or taking a break outside in Downtown Tempe.
1. Order Some Take-out
Downtown Tempe offers a variety choices to satisfy almost every craving. Our downtown businesses offer scrumptious cuisines such as Mexican, American, Italian and all the pizza you could want! And remember, alcohol can be picked up and delivered! Grab a bottle of wine, a bucket of beer or even a margarita! Check out our To-Go & Delivery page for an up-to-date listing of all our fabulous restaurants!
2. Take a Boat Ride
Tempe Town Lake is open and ready for your paddling talents. Tempe Boat Rentals is offering 50% off one person boats. Grab your friend and see who can peddle faster as you race in separate, but equally fun, rental boats.
3. Venture into the Virtual Events
Downtown Tempe is known for its crowd-pleasing events, such as the Tempe Festival of the Arts and the 6th Street Market. Even though these events had to be cancelled for this spring, we have launched virtual events to ensure the artists, makers and purveyors can still showcase and sell their magnificent works. Check out our Virtual Tempe Festival of the Arts on our website, Facebook and Instagram! For the 6th Street Market vendors, check out the listing on our event page.
4. Go on Hike
Recently, the City of Tempe in partnership with ASU, honored first responders with painting the normally gold “A” on A Mountain, blue. Take a hike to the top and explore the newly painted symbol. While you’re up there, take a long look at our beautiful downtown and remember we are all in this together and we will make it through this.
5. Explore the Bike Trails
Tempe has some of the best bike trails in Arizona and you can get to Downtown Tempe extremely easy thanks to how bike-cessible our city is. Ride your bike down Mill Ave., around A Mountain, and down to Tempe Beach Park to enjoy the vibrant sights! If you’re in need of a bike tune up, we have a business for that! Check out the Bicycle Cellar and schedule a service while you’re downtown.
6. Go on a Shopping Spree
Everyone is in need of some retail therapy once and awhile, so check out some of our Downtown Tempe retailers and binge buy from some of your favorite places. Cactus Sports, Happy Healthy Horny Herbs Shop, and Lotions & Potions all take online orders. Here is listing of all our retail shops for you to peruse online in the comfort of your home. Remember! If some shops don’t have shopping available online, just give them a call for curbside pick-up or for other options.
7. Play Tempe Tales
While you’re out and about taking a walk or exploring the downtown area (since you’ve probably watched the entire Netflix library by now), stop at one of the Newsracks along Mill Ave. (Post Office, Starbucks or CASA locations) and grab a Tempe Tales booklet. Take the kiddos and find all the hares hiding all around Downtown Tempe. It’s much better than finding stuffed animals on people’s porches! (Totally kidding! That’s just as fun and exciting!
8. Center Yourself with Virtual Yoga
Yoga to the People continues to, well… bring yoga to the people thanks to their twice daily virtual classes! Check out their website and sign up for one of their classes and enjoy a yoga session in the comfort of your home. They run completely on donations (suggested donation is $10 per class), so if you take part in a class, you are highly encouraged to donate via Venmo to ensure they can offer these classes for years to come! Or if you’re feeling generous, you can donate here anyway!
9. Party at Home
Are you missing the club? Well, you’re in luck! Low Key has a virtual party every Friday and Saturday night! Check out their Facebook to party along with their ivory tickling musicians and party it up at home! The musicians display their Venmo’s throughout the show so you can tip them for their talents on Venmo.
10. Volunteer
There are a lot of people in need during this extremely difficult time. If you have extra resources, want to donate, or even want to volunteer for our Downtown Tempe nonprofits, check out this page to learn how you can help.
